Genia re-signs with ARU, Reds until 2011
New Wallabies halfback Will Genia has signed a two-year contract with the Australian Rugby Union and Queensland Reds, securing his services through to the 2011 World Cup.
Genia has made giant strides in 2009, making his Test debut off the bench in the Tri Nations opener against New Zealand and displacing Luke Burgess to become the starting No.9 in the final two Tests of the series.
The 21-year-old was flying out on Friday night for the Wallabies' end-of-season Spring Tour to Japan and Europe as the incumbent halfback ahead of Burgess and newcomer Richard Kingi.
"It's been a rapid rise for me this year but I certainly haven't taken any of it for granted," Genia said.
"I have tried to make the most of all opportunities I've received at training or on game day, and I've enjoyed every moment.
"I grew up in Queensland watching the Reds, so to have had the opportunity and the honour to play for them was definitely exciting.
"I'm very passionate about playing for Queensland and hopefully I will for a long time to come."
