Australia thrashes World XI by 93 runs
Australia rebounded from its Ashes series loss to win its opening Super Series cricket one dayer, beating the World XI by 93 runs at Telstra Dome.
The Australians dropped three catches, but otherwise had little trouble in dismissing the world team for 162 off 41.3 overs.
Australia made 8-255 from 50 overs as it shook off the underdog tag, a status it has not had in world cricket for a decade.
Shane Watson was one of the culprits in the field, but made up with 3-43 and a sharp run out to be named man of the match.
Opener Kumar Sangakkara made the most of a dropped chance to top score with 64.
England's Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff was made to look mortal, conceding 66 from nine wicketless overs, although his 38 was the second-highest score of the World XI innings.
Australia's dropped catches were in contrast to the sharp World XI fielding.
Even Kevin Pietersen, who dropped all six of his chances during the Ashes series, took a catch in the deep to dismiss Mike Hussey.
Shane Watson was at first slip in the fifth over when he grassed a simple chance from Virender Sehwag off Brett Lee.
Fortunately for Watson, Sehwag only added one more run before McGrath dismissed him for six.
