Berrigan gets life membership of Broncos
Shaun Berrigan was given life membership of the Broncos at the National Rugby League club's official launch in front of 600 guests on Friday night.
The club officially recognised Berrigan's 10 years as a player.
Retiring Sydney-based doctor John Neophython was also presented with a special award at the launch held at the Victoria Park Golf Club.
Coach Wayne Bennett wheeled out his top 25 players headed by skipper Darren Lockyer who was still puzzled by unsubstantiated reports he wanted to leave Brisbane despite only recently having signed a four-year contract.
Brisbane chief executive Bruno Cullen described the rumours which Lockyer laughed off as "dirty tricks campaign" to unsettle the Broncos.
Lockyer said the rumours "could not be further from the truth" and that he was totally committed to the Broncos.
Number one ticker holder Lachlan Murdoch was a last minute scratching from the big night which featured Normie Rowe singing the NRL's theme song "That's My Game" with backing from an all female string trio.
Brisbane kicks off the season with a blockbuster against the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday week with several star players short of a pre-season hit-out.
Lockyer has not played since breaking his toe in Paris during the Kangaroos failed Tri Nations Tour late last year.
He told the audience he was feeling refreshed after a long lay off but warned it may take a few games for him and some of his teammates to run out the rust after missing the pre-season trials.
