Bright best snowboard chance as men sink
Australia's hopes in the halfpipe are expected to now rest largely on the shoulders of Torah Bright after a disappointing morning for the men's snowboard team at the Winter Olympics.
There was some hope Australia might squeeze a boarder into the 12-man final in Bardonecchia but that proved a bridge too far as Mitchell Allan (31st), Andrew Burton (32nd) and Ben Mates (42nd) were outclassed.
Allan looked some kind of show with a clean combination of tricks on his second run but his hopes were dashed when he landed on the edge of the 'pipe with his last major pointscoring manoeuvre.
Burton struggled on his first run and while getting good air on the second did not have the technical points to challenge the best riders.
Mates had broken his board on the first run and struggled just as much in the second.
Bright is up on Tuesday and holds out strong hopes of getting on the podium.
In other alpine skiing action Craig Branch finished 32nd in the downhill while cross country skier Claire-Louise Brumley was 42nd in the ladies pursuit.
