Budget woes mean no party for Turin
Organisers of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin have cancelled next month's party to mark the 100-day countdown to the Games due to budget problems, replacing it with a work session.
"The 'Minus 100' will be celebrated in Turin with a work seminar with undersecretary Mario Pescante and Piemontese institutional directors," organising committee TOROC said in a statement.
TOROC added a sledge hockey test event for the Paralympics would also be considered part of the celebration.
Italy's government recently cut funding for the Olympics as part of its 2006 national budget.
Last week TOROC said the 16 million euro ($A26.3 million) cut and other outstanding contributions from the government could upset the entire 3.4 billion euro ($A5.59 billion) Olympic budget.
The party had been scheduled for November 4.
The Games will run from February 10-26.
