Hobart AFL decision delayed
North Melbourne must wait another week to learn if the Tasmanian government will approve AFL matches at Hobart's Bellerive Oval.
The Kangaroos hope to play two home games a year at the ground as a way to ease their well-known financial problems.
There were expectations of a decision early this week, but North announced on Monday that there would be a delay.
The club website quoted Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings as saying the decision was expected to be made next week.
"As I have said on a number of occasions, I believe playing AFL games in the south could bring significant economic benefits to Tasmanian businesses, particularly in the winter months," the premier said.
"I have also made no secret that we are facing a tough budget situation.
"Tasmanians need to be assured that we are carefully considering all factors in this debate and it is prudent that we take the time required to get our decision right."
The `Roos hope to secure a three-year deal that would earn them about $600,000 a game.
