Wright unhappy with World XI batsmen
World XI coach John Wright has launched a savage attack on the lack of commitment from his batsmen before the Super Test against Australia starting Friday at the SCG.
The star-studded outfit barely fired a shot in the three-match one-day series in Melbourne, being humbled 3-0 by an Australian side intent on re-establishing its credentials as the best cricket team on the planet.
New Zealander Wright has been frustrated by the lack of dedication by the composite side and demanded his men play with some pride in the one-off six-day match.
"As far as I am concerned the whole of the management we are looking for a hell of a lot more commitment and determination than we saw particularly in the last match and the onus in this game has to go on the batters," Wright said.
"It is very important we are professionals and we have to play with pride in our personal and team performance, and that has to happen in this Test match, that is what I will be demanding."
There definitely appeared to be less unity among the all-stars compared to the tight-knit Australians in the one-dayers.
Gun allrounder Andrew Flintoff admitted it was hard to generate camaraderie inside the team in such a short space of time.
"Playing for England and playing with a bunch of blokes you have played with for a long time and come into a dressing room with people you don't necessarily know is going to be harder," he said.
"We have come out here to play cricket against the best side in the world, there is a lot of personal pride you want to put on a good show when you get picked for the World XI and you want to play well.
"And you don't come here to embarrass yourself or play poorly and we have to raise our game."
