Neitz backs Yze to stay with Demons
Melbourne captain David Neitz is confident Adem Yze will stay at the AFL club, after fears that the utility would leave over a contract dispute.
Neitz, Yze and ruckman Jeff White are in contract negotiations with the Demons.
But Neitz is talking as though his new two-year deal will soon be settled, saying he is keen to retain the captaincy.
There was strong speculation last week that Yze was lost to the Demons.
"I think things are moving a little bit closer ... I have had a bit of a chat with Adem and he, myself and Jeff White are in a similar sort of boat," Neitz said.
"We're all in that negotiation stage at the moment.
"Last week, things were a fair way apart and I think this week they're starting to move a little bit closer.
"Adem's a Melbourne person, he's played here all his career and I know he wants to finish out his career here - hopefully they can come to some sort of agreement soon, but I think they're moving at least in the right direction."
Neitz, 30, said the sticking point at the moment was the detail surrounding the second year of his new deal.
But he is confident of leading the Demons again next season.
