Tait spell to Langer seals Test debut
A blistering spell of bowling to Justin Langer in the nets confirmed to Australia Shaun Tait is ready for Test cricket.
Tait will make his debut in the fourth Ashes Test against England at Trent Bridge on Thursday at the expense of his friend and South Australian teammate Jason Gillespie.
Tait, 22, will become the 392nd Australian Test player and is elated by the news.
But Langer was anything but elated after copping the speedster's onslaught in the Trent Bridge nets.
Tait bowled Langer with a yorker and if that wasn't enough to upset the veteran batsman, he was struck a painful blow in the groin - it shattered his protector.
The next delivery hit Langer on the arm and the pair traded words after Langer flicked the ball back angrily towards the bowler.
"Are you angry at me?," Tait said with arms out. "I'm not trying to pin you."
Langer curtly replied: "Just bowl."
The row was soon resolved when they spoke after their net session and gave each other a warm hug.
Soon after, captain Ricky Ponting told Tait he had beaten Michael Kasprowicz for the right to take Gillespie's spot.
