Swans an AFL premiership threat: Schwass
Former club champion Wayne Schwass says it's time Sydney coach Paul Roos faces facts - the Swans are a big chance to win the AFL premiership this year.
Asked if the fourth-placed Swans are slipping under the radar, Schwass told AAP: "I don't think there's any doubt about that.
"They are just quietly going about their business," added Schwass, whose playing career ended in 2002 and is a Fox Footy television commentator.
"The Swans are going along beautifully and I think they are a serious (premiership) threat."
The Swans are rated as $7.00 chances to win the premiership by sports bookmaker Centrebet after thrashing four-time grand finalist Brisbane by 84 points at Telstra Stadium last week.
"Perhaps last weekend's result suggested to the football world that they were a bit better than just a top-four and maybe they have got a game that can go all the way," Schwass said.
"But I guess when you compare the Swans with St Kilda and West Coast, perhaps they don't get the respect that they deserve.
"Paul Roos continually talks down his side," said Schwass.
Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews said after Sunday's loss he rated Sydney as a premiership threat and was puzzled that "Roosy keeps talking them down".
"Maybe that's part of a plan to undersell his side so that perhaps people do underestimate them," Schwass said.
