Dally Ms in danger of becoming no show
The National Rugby League's night of nights is in danger of becoming a night to forget with the game's leading players edging towards a boycott of the Dally M awards.
The Rugby League Players' Association (RLPA) will meet with its delegates in Sydney on Wednesday to discuss the NRL's response to five key issues identified by them at a meeting in Sydney last month.
When asked his opinion of the league's response, RLPA chairman Tony Butterfield said he was unimpressed.
"We have got it and it's not particularly impressive but we'll take it to the players and get their point of view," Butterfield said.
It's understood a boycott of the game's most prestigious awards ceremony will be considered if the player representatives adopt a similar stance.
NRL chief executive David Gallop said he had offered to speak to the players personally at tomorrow's meeting but the RLPA had rejected that advance.
Gallop said he had spoken with Butterfield's brother Grant - the RLPA's lawyer - and thought the two parties had moved closer to an agreement.
"I spoke to his brother and they indicated that we weren't far apart on the issues," Gallop said.
"I am more than happy to speak to the players directly but he doesn't want that.
"I guess I will have to try to see what their specific concerns are."
