MacGill loving the SCG
Australian cricket's SCG specialist, Stuart MacGill, believes his good form at the ground will give him the perfect lead-up for the third Test against Pakistan.
MacGill was on Thursday named in a 13-man squad for the match and said he never thought about earning a recall and a possible reunion with fellow legspinner Shane Warne.
"I definitely didn't have myself pencilled in for this one," MacGill said at Perth Airport before preparing to leave a family holiday and fly to Sydney.
"I thought it was such a winning team at the moment, don't change something that's not broken.
"But I feel very, very pleased to be back in the squad."
MacGill, 33, has played five of his 32 Tests on the turning SCG wicket and taken 32 wickets there, at an average of 28.43 - slightly better than his career mark of 29.21.
He took his Test best of 7-50 at the ground - against England in 1998-99 - and has starred at the venue this season, which could earn him a place in the final XI.
"This is certainly my best start to a season and the fact that I have already played at the SCG four of five times is a great preparation for this match," he said.
MacGill has taken 36 first-class scalps for NSW this season at 18.27.
Of those, 26 wickets have come at his home ground - at an average of 17 runs a scalp - and eight of those victims were New Zealand batsmen in a tour match.
