Bennett looking for slump solution
Coach Wayne Bennett was brutally honest about his team's premiership chances after they slumped to another costly NRL loss to the Wests Tigers 12-10 at Suncorp Stadium.
Bennett delved back into the Gold Coast Chargers' past to quote their former coach Phil Economidis with the comment "We're on the crest of a form slump".
Asked how the Broncos could dig their way out of the hole they're in before the finals, Bennett said: "I haven't got an answer for you right now".
Bennett criticised his players for turning up with a poor attitude and expecting somebody else to do the hard work for them.
"It's attitude. We came out last week trying to turn some things around, but, no-one wanted to put their hands up," he said.
"Some guys put in more effort than others but the bottom line is you're either in the team or your not.
"We might start the year like that, but it's definitely not the way you want to finish it."
With champion fullback Darren Lockyer, Origin five-eighth Ben Ikin, and representative forward Brad Meyers all in line for timely comebacks against the Warriors next week, things may not be a bleak as they appear.
Bennett hinted even injured skipper Gorden Tallis could make a surprise comeback in Wellington.
"Those guys are key players, they make decisions others can't," said Bennett.
