Hurdles record ratified
Xiang Liu's world record equalling run in the 110 metres hurdles at the Athens Olympic Games was ratified Wednesday by the International Association of Athletic Federations.
Liu clocked 12.91 seconds to win gold in the event in Athens on August 27. That equalled the record set by Britain's Colin Jackson in Stuttgart, Germany, on August 20, 1993.
The IAAF also ratified Saif Saeed Shaheen's 3,000 metre steeplechase record of seven minutes, 53.63 seconds, set in Brussels, Belgium, on September 3.
He beat the previous mark of 7:55.28 set by Moroccan Brahim Boulami in Brussels, Belgium, on August 24, 2001.
Shaheen switched his nationality from Kenya a year ago, where he was known as Stephen Cherono. He missed the Olympic Games because Kenya wouldn't give him permission to compete for Qatar.
Yelena Isinbayeva's two most recent world records in the pole vault were also ratified. The Russian won Olympic gold with 4.91 metres on August 24, then set a new mark of 4.92 metres in Brussels on September 3.
