India pulls off amazing win in Test
India pulled off an astonishing 13-run victory over Australia in the fourth and final cricket Test at Wankhede Stadium on Friday.
Set 107 runs to win, Australia was bowled out for 93.
Although Australia won the series 2-1 to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India retrieved a measure of pride in a dramatic turnabout in fortune late on the third day.
Australia appeared to hold the whip hand after bowling India out for 205, with part-time spinner Michael Clarke finishing with the amazing figures of six wickets for nine runs.
Debutant off-spinner Nathan Hauritz captured the prize wickets of Sachin Tendulkar (55) and VVS Laxman, whose 69 was the top score of the match.
But Australia's frailty in fourth-innings run chases was exposed as India ripped through them in 30.5 overs.
Matthew Hayden top-scored with 24.
None of the Australians was able to withstand the Indian onslaught on a dusty, spiteful wicket.
Jason Gillespie and Michael Kasprowicz took Australia to within sight of victory with a brave ninth-wicket stand of 15, but India swept to victory when off-spinner Harbhajan Singh cleaned up the final two wickets in three balls.
Australia's score of 93 at least bettered its lowest total against India of 83, but captain Ricky Ponting could not hide his disappointment at the defeat, and the state of the pitch.
