Taipans too strong for Bullets 112-90
The Cairns Taipans were too strong for Brisbane, shooting down the Bullets 112-90 at the Cairns Convention Centre.
Snakes captain Stephen Black made good use of star shooters Nathan Jawai and Martin Cattalini to decisively defeat his former team-mates and break a three-game losing streak.
Defending premiers Brisbane, plagued by a weak defence, were further hampered by having three players fouled out.
Taipans coach Alan Black said Cairns had made up for the previous week's bad luck.
"We did play very well, our offence was very good and keeping Brisbane down to 90 points is great."
The Bullets offensive was patchy from the tip-off but they surged forward late in the first quarter, briefly leading after an Adam Gibson two-pointer brought them to 27-26, but good footwork by Larry Abney soon left them for dead.
And Taipans star import Jawai quickly put a dampener on things.
Further strong offensive work meant their fate seemed sealed and Cairns continued to maintain a comfortable lead.
But the third quarter saw tempers boil over as Jawai and Dusty Rychart swapped shoves and insults and needed to be torn apart by team-mates.
Brisbane's spirited defence vainly tried to keep it under wraps but they couldn't stop the Snakes surging ahead to crack the 100 mark.
