Hall wins 5th US Open wheelchair title
Athens Paralympics wheelchair tennis silver medallist David Hall has won his fifth consecutive US Open singles title in San Diego.
The Australian beat Athens gold medallist Robin Ammerlaan of the Netherlands 6-3 3-6 6-1 in the final.
"It was a windy day out there today, Robin and I played some tough tennis, but when it came to the final set I was just able to win the break points and the game points when I needed to" said Hall courtside in San Diego.
Hall has been US Open champion eight out of the past 10 years - 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2003 and 2004.
The last time he was defeated in the event was when he literally crashed out in the quarter finals in 1999 as a result of his wheelchair breaking.
"Each year I return with a driving determination to continue my success and I am really honoured that I have been able to retain the champion's title again this year," Hall said.
