Mladin completes double win
Australia's Mat Mladin has completed a winning double in the penultimate round of the US Superbike Championship in Braselton, Georgia.
Suzuki rider Mladin won the second race to complete a perfect weekend double-header, and extended his championship lead to 42-points over Honda rider Jake Zemke.
Mladin is now on 532 points as the series heads to its final race of the year at Virginia International Raceway.
The 32-year-old who hails from the south-west Sydney town of Camden, has led the championship from the opening race of the season, and is just two races away from claiming an unprecedented fifth US Superbike crown.
Aiming to repeat Saturday's opening race win, Mladin made a steady start to Sunday's race as he sat behind early race leaders Ben Bostrom and Miguel DuHamel.
Mladin's posted the race's fastest lap to move past DuHamel for second, before slipping by Bostrom a lap later to take the lead.
Mladin's winning margin was 3.953 seconds over DuHamel, with Bostrom finishing third.
"The race obviously went well for us today, but I did push hard in the early laps and made a couple of little mistakes before it all started to fall into place," said Mladin.
"I did a really good job in being able to get past the backmarkers which allowed us to increase the size of the gap. It all worked out well."
"I felt that we had a motorcycle, that if we pushed hard I was confident of what it could do for 25-laps and I didn't want to give away a race while I was thinking about the championship when we could do it without taking any serious risks.
