Boks beat gallant Georgians

South Africa triumphed on the scoreboard, but Georgia won credibility and created its own piece of Rugby World Cup history in its pool C 46-19 loss to the Springboks at Aussie Stadium.

A second-string Springboks outfit struggled to subdue the spirited Georgians, who had gone tryless and conceded 140 points in their two previous losses to England and Samoa.

South Africa scored seven tries to one, but few players advanced their prospects of breaking into the first-choice line-up.

Young five-eighth Derick Hougaard was one of the few Springboks to shine.

He scored 16 points and showed good vision on several occasions.

Hougaard, who was starting a Test for the first time, could put pressure on first-choice five-eighth Louis Koen, but dashing openside flanker Danie Rossouw, who scored two tries, was one only a handful of other impressive Boks.

Overwhelmingly supportive by the crowd, Georgia drew the biggest cheer of the night in the 53rd minute when hooker David Dadunashvili crashed over the line for Georgia's first World Cup finals try.

The historic five-pointer came just seconds after Springboks blindside flanker Hendro Scholtz was sin-binned by Australian referee Stuart Dickinson for laying over the ball.

Flanker George Tsiklauri cleaned won the line-out ball from the ensuing penalty and Dadunashvili was powered over the line by his fellow forwards.

Georgia competed well in the forwards, but lacked the backline polish of the Springboks.
