Crocker will play: Maroons
Queensland declared fierce tackling forward Michael Crocker a certain starter in the Origin decider despite reports his ankle injury was causing concerns.
Crocker limped off a slippery Telstra Stadium towards the end of a training session after rolling his right ankle.
He spent several minutes conferring with coach Michael Hagan and team physiotherapist Michael Dalgleish and flexing his right leg.
Concerns escalated when he gingerly walked to the dressing sheds in the company of team doctor Roy Saunders.
The Queensland camp was quick to react, issuing a brief statement that the Roosters second-rower would play Wednesday night, although that announcement was made before the team's medical staff had consulted fully with team management.
Soon after the statement was released, there were unconfirmed reports that South Sydney captain Ashley Harrison had been contacted and told to prepare to join the Maroons camp at Darling Harbour, a report denied by the Queenslanders.
Later in the afternoon another rumour surfaced suggesting Crocker's ankle injury was serious enough to possibly jeopardise his NRL season.
However Sydney Roosters officials, who'd spoken to Crocker, said his latest injury was not serious and that he'd told them he would play.
"Michael epitomises what Origin is all about and it would take a lot of stop him playing," said Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan.
Crocker may play with a pain killing injection, depending how the ankle responds to treatment before kick-off.
