Crocker's last shot at Origin glory
Queensland forward Michael Crocker will head abroad with no regrets but says he'll annually plead to do an "Alfie Langer" if he fails to taste Origin success on Wednesday night.
Crocker will play his 10th and final match for the Maroons at ANZ Stadium desperately hoping to achieve his burning desire to break through for a series victory.
The hard-nosed Melbourne Storm back-rower has played in three previous series but never got to hold up the shield as NSW took a hat-trick of titles from 2003-05.
Injury prevented Crocker from playing a part in Queensland's back-to-back 2006 and 2007 series victories and 2008 presents as his last chance.
The 28-year-old links with English Super League club Hull on a three-year contract at the end of the season and says he'd be devastated if he left Australia without Origin success.
"It won't be until after the game that I will realise it's all over so hopefully I'll have a big smile all over my face rather than have my head buried in my hands," he told AAP on Thursday.
"It was one of the hardest things in my decision to walk away from representative football. After I leave I won't have any regrets and I'll move forward with my career.
"(But) if we lose I'll call Mal up every year just to make sure there are no spots available - another Alfie Langer comeback."
Queensland great Allan Langer made the most famous comeback in the state's league history when he was secretly flown back from England to play in the 2001 series decider in Brisbane.
Halfback Langer starred at 35 years of age as the Maroons thrashed NSW 40-14 at the old ANZ Stadium.
"Emotionally (my last match) will have a bit more value to me but I don't need any more motivation," Crocker said.
"To miss the last two years it was a little bit tough and a little bit frustrating to see the boys win when I could have been there. Still, in saying that, it felt good to be a Queenslander."
Queensland's 30-0 game two win over the Blues a fortnight ago was just Crocker's third victory in nine Origin matches.
But the fiery Test forward expects to be watching plenty more Maroon victories from England as he plays with Hull.
"The core of players that are there are still young so it's still an exciting future for Queensland," Crocker said.
"You have got players like Cam (Smith) and Johnathan (Thurston) and Karmichael (Hunt) who have been here for a long time already and they will still be here for another five or six years."
