Tired Vagana redeeems himself
Cronulla centre Nigel Vagana was too tired to acknowledge sledgers in the crowd at Parramatta Stadium when he scored the winning try in extra time in the NRL clash with the Eels.
Following his shocking game at fullback for New Zealand in last night's 27-point loss to Australia, Vagana said he had redeemed himself after accepting a Michael Sullivan pass and sprinting 30m to score under the posts.
The try broke a 14-all deadlock during the golden point period, enabling the Sharks to record their first back-to-back wins for the season.
Vagana said the Parramatta fans were giving it to him all night about his diabolical performance for the Kiwis but he had the last laugh.
"It was good to give them a little bit back," said the former Bulldog, who scored his maiden try for Cronulla in only his second game for the club.
Vagana said he was always confident he would bounce back from last night's debacle while Kiwi coach Daniel Anderson commented it would be 2010 until the 29-year-old had another shocker like in Newcastle.
"Everyone has their off days and last night was one of mine," said Vagana, who missed Cronulla's win over Canberra last week because of suspension.
"The measure of it is how good you come back from it.
"The thing about football is that you always get a chance to redeem yourself and hopefully I did it tonight.
"I don't think too many people will forget that try."
