Johns could leave Newcastle
Andrews Johns will not retire from rugby league but could leave the Newcastle Knights, the injured star said.
Johns was carted from the field on the weekend after injuring his knee and is expected to be out for the season.
But the man voted the world's best player vowed he will come back to the NRL after several years blighted by injury.
"I'm going to come back," Johns told Channel Nine.
"I've missed a lot of footy in the last couple of years and people are going to say the injuries but none of the injuries are the same.
"I'm determined to come back - there's still a lot I want to do. I think I proved to myself in the off season - how hard I trained - there's still that desire there."
Johns will decide later this year whether he will stay with the Knights but said his future was well from decided.
"It's a really tough decision," he said.
"I love playing up in Newcastle, I love all the players around me but I think in the past I've made decisions for other people and my wife and the club - this decision now is going to be for myself.
"I'm going to have to think long and hard about it. It's going to be a real tough one."
