Kangaroos CEO Aylett quits the AFL club
Kangaroos chief executive Rick Aylett has announced his shock resignation less than a week after the club defiantly knocked back the AFL's offer of relocation to the Gold Coast.
"It is with deep regret that, for personal reasons, I have tendered my resignation as CEO of the Kangaroos," Aylett wrote in a statement on Tuesday night.
"I have notified James Brayshaw of my decision today and wished him and the Board all the best."
Aylett said the club must use its smarts as much as its renowned spirit to keep financially afloat in the future.
"We all admire the famous Shinboner Spirit, but we know that it alone will not guarantee the long term survival of the club," Aylett said.
The AFL has stated its intention for a 17th club to be based on the Gold Coast following the Kangaroos' rejection of a move north.
