Guccione out of Austrian Open
Big-serving Chris Guccione may be enjoying a career-high world ranking but it didn't save him from a first-round loss at the Austrian Open.
Australia's world No.88 thundered down 14 aces only to suffer a 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (12-10) loss to Belgian Christophe Rochus.
Austrian Rainer Eitzinger, ranked 406th in the world, upset former top-20 player Max Mirnyi 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-3) to book a second-round clash with Argentina's defending champion Agustin Calleri.
Vina Del Mar winner Luis Horna of Peru beat Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 7-5 6-3 and will next meet 11th-seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain.
Argentine Diego Hartfield rallied to defeat No.283 Martin Fischer of Austria 5-7 6-4 6-2, Chile's Paul Capdeville won the first 10 games to beat American Hugo Armando 6-0 6-3, and Frenchman Olivier Patience downed Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic 6-3 6-2.
All seeded players have a bye in the first round.
