Eels rout Roosters 28-10
Two tries in three minutes to New Zealand Test fullback Krisnan Inu have helped spark Parramatta to a 28-10 NRL win over the Roosters at Parramatta Stadium.
Inu, promoted into the centres from Premier League after a hamstring injury to rugby-bound Timana Tahu, scored in the 6th and 9th minutes before the Eels coasted to an easy win over the competition's cellar dwellers.
The Eels snapped their two-game losing streak with the win and brought the Roosters crashing back down to earth following their 1000th win and first victory of the season against St George Illawarra on Anzac Day.
Eric Grothe, Nathan Hindmarsh and Luke Burt also crossed for the Eels while substitute Ashley Harrison and Sam Perrett scored second-half consolation tries for the lacklustre Roosters, who had five players backing up from Thursday's City-Country match in Coffs Harbour.
Luke Burt continued his excellent goal-kicking record, kicking four from five, while halfback Tim Smith was in great form, having a hand in all of the Eels' five tries.
The Eels led 22-0 at half-time and from there the result was never in doubt, the Roosters defending poorly and continually squandering chances in good attacking positions.
Inu, playing in only his second NRL match, got on the end of a clever Tim Smith kick to score his first NRL try in the 6th minute after both sides had failed to capitalise a few good early attacking positions.
Smith kicked out wide early in the tackle count and Roosters fullback Anthony Minichiello was deceived by the bounce, allowing Inu to race through and score, the video referee confirming the grounding of the ball.
The Eels were given a piggyback upfield when the Roosters kicked over the in-goal line on the full from the restart and Inu, who earned a shock call-up for last month's Test against Australia, was in again three minutes later.
Parramatta had numbers out wide and Smith spun a ball to the 20-year-old, who strode effortlessly through the Roosters line before bouncing off Minichiello to plant the ball down.
Smith was again involved as Eric Grothe crossed in the 22nd minute, the halfback sending the ball wide to centre Ben Smith, who offloaded to give the rampaging winger an easy run to the line.
Inu and Smith combined to set up Hindmarsh in the 26th minute, the halfback throwing a cut-out pass to the Kiwi youngster who turned the ball inside to give Hindmarsh a clear passage to the line.
Parramatta extended their lead almost immediately after half-time when Luke Burt gathered a Smith grubber to score his third four-pointer of the season.
The Roosters finally got on the board in the 56th minute when Braith Anasta put Ashley Harrison through a gap 10 metres out from the Eels line, Craig Fitzgibbon adding the extras.
Anasta crashed over the Eels' line with six minutes to go but was ruled held up by Burt before Perrett scored on the stroke of full-time.
