Robson hopeful of new Eels deal
Parramatta halfback Jeff Robson hopes to have a deal worked out by the end of the week to keep him in blue and gold for the 2010 NRL season.
Having steered Parramatta into Sunday night's grand final, in which the Eels went down to Melbourne 23-16, Robson said he was desperate to stick around and help the club go one better next year.
"I really want to stay at the club, so I'm hoping to sort something out either this week or very soon," Robson said.
The journeyman playmaker appeared to have finally found himself a home when he took the Eels from near the foot of the ladder midway through the season to within 80 minutes of a drought-breaking premiership.
But the 27-year-old could yet find himself squeezed out by the salary cap, Parramatta having spent a large chunk for next season on new buys Timana Tahu, Justin Poore and Shane Shackleton.
There is also the not-so-insignificant upgrade for superstar fullback Jarryd Hayne, while the Eels already have young halfback Kris Keating tied to the club for the next two seasons.
Centre Krisnan Inu said he would be devastated if Sunday night's grand final side was broken up before they were given a chance to redeem themselves, with hooker Kevin Kingston also unsigned for next season.
Backrowers Joe Galuvao (to Manly) and Todd Lowrie (Melbourne) have already agreed to contracts elsewhere.
"I hope they're going to be there," Inu said of Robson and Kingston.
"For them to play the way they played all year, you expect them to be there next year and help build the team.
"Everyone's grown to love each other and we've got such a strong bond, you don't want to see anyone go."
"Fingers crossed for Robbo that he stays."
