Souths rookie Peats out to bury Warriors
South Sydney rookie Nathan Peats grew up as a staunch Sydney Roosters fan, but admits he felt nothing but euphoria when the Rabbitohs downed their bitter rivals last weekend.
The utility cheered as much as anyone when Chris Sandow slotted the winning field goal to seal the 21-20 golden point win and Peats believes the win is the boost the Rabbitohs need ahead of Sunday's NRL clash with the Warriors.
"It was one of the most enjoyable games in my career so far," Peats told AAP.
"I grew up going for the Roosters until I was about 15 as Brad Fittler was my favourite player, but as soon as I came through the grades at Souths they are now the arch enemy.
"Seeing Chrissy score that field goal from 50-odd metres was an awesome feeling because it was a game we really had to win.
"A lot of games this year we have been in a winning spot with 15-20 minutes to go and let it slip and even though we scored a try with five minutes to go to level the scores, it was good that we held in there for the full 80 minutes and got the points."
Souths sit 12th on the ladder, but are just two points behind eight-placed Penrith and Peats is hoping the momentum from last week can carry the team through to the finals.
"We're not really going out there saying 'if we lose we're out' but we know where we are on the table and know what we have to do and we believe we are good enough to go out against the Warriors and get the win," he said.
The Warriors' quartet of props will look to carry on where they left off in the win against Canterbury last week for the ANZ Stadium encounter.
The rotation of Sam Rapira, Jacob Lillyman, Ben Matulino and Russell Packer provided the go-forward for the sixth-placed Warriors' 36-12 victory over the Bulldogs last Friday.
It was the club's biggest win of the year and coach Ivan Cleary's response has been to retain the same 17 players for the trip across the Tasman.
Matulino's inclusion means he maintains hisstatus as one of three ever-present Warriors this season.
"I'm glad I still haven't been dropped yet," Matulino said.
"I must be doing something right."
Matulino credited the return of fellow Kiwi Sam Rapira a fortnight ago as a big part of the Warriors' ability to post back-to-back wins after a four-match losing streak.
"It's good to have Sammy back, he lifts everyone when he comes back," he said.
"It's like having (Micheal) Lucky back as well. Everyone in the team has a huge respect for them both."
