Bird feels at home with Blues
Greg Bird says NSW already has the familiarity of a club side and that will hold them in good stead in the State of Origin decider on Wednesday week.
The backrower has been outstanding for the Blues in 2011 and was excited to get back into camp this week after another frustrating weekend in the NRL with the struggling Gold Coast Titans.
"It can be tough when things aren't going well on the football field but for me to come into this environment with this bunch of blokes, who are your best mates, is a great thing," Bird said.
"It's like a club team, the familiarity we have with each other ... it's a great thing to have.
"We're not overawed by it, we know what's ahead of us and we've just got to make sure we stand up and be counted on the day of days."
Bird is bracing for a monster game at Suncorp Stadium as the Blues look to win their first series since 2005.
"It's going to be a massive feat to go up there and beat a side led by Darren Lockyer in his last game and in a deciding Origin game ... it's probably going to be the biggest State of Origin match in 30 years," he said.
"But that's what our whole week of preparation is for, to make sure that we are not star-struck by Darren Lockyer and all of the emotion that surrounds the game.
"We are up there to do a job and we're playing for our state and we want to bring the title back to a state that has been bruised and battered over the last five years."
The former Cronulla Shark expects the Blues to keep the game plan simple for game three.
"Ricky (Stuart) will go over the videos and find areas we can work on but overall I wouldn't think much will change," Bird said.
"What's been working for us over the first two games has been us worrying about ourselves and doing the best we can, it's a pretty simple formula.
"It doesn't matter what they throw at us, we can handle it."
