Flanagan backs Snowden for NSW recall
Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan believes Kade Snowden's performance in the NRL win over Canterbury on Sunday was good enough to earn him a State of Origin recall.
Snowden endured a difficult NSW debut in Origin I and problems with his neck prompted Blues coach Ricky Stuart to omit the Newcastle-bound prop from his line-up for second clash in Sydney last week.
But after Snowden racked up more than 200 metres with the ball in the 26-10 win over the Bulldogs, Flanagan revealed the 24-year-old had been told by doctors his neck condition couldn't get any worse, allowing him to return to his best.
"I'd like to think he's done enough to get his Origin jersey back," Flanagan said.
"I thought he was outstanding ... he's had a neck complaint but he had some good news on Friday ... and that was the trigger for him for to really knuckle down and have a big game for us.
"He has lost a bit of power in one of his arms and he is just getting that back, and I think it is more of a relief than anything that he has got no long-term damage to his neck."
Snowden will be given a pain-killing jab on Monday to help him get through the remainder of the season and said he would love to be part of the Blues set-up for the decider in Brisbane on July 6.
"It's a bit sore, but I am getting needled on Monday arvo ... getting the news from the docs was great," Snowden said.
"I didn't want to miss any games but at the same time I don't want to make it any worse.
"I would love to be a part of it (Origin). Every player would want to play in that game. To play up there, for the series, well that would be awesome.
"I am sure Ricky will give me a call this week and I will tell him what is going on.
"I will leave it up to him and the selectors but it didn't bother me at all today and I am very happy with it."
