Carney finds some form in NSW Cup
Todd Carney scored a try and set up two more as he inspired Newtown Jets to a 38-26 win over Manly at Brookvale Oval on Saturday.
The Dally M Medallist, who asked to play for the NSW Cup side to try to recapture his form for Sydney Roosters, after a season blighted by off-field issues and injury, played at fullback and centre for the full 80 minutes.
Carney's presence swelled the crowd to around 500 - easily the biggest to watch the Sea Eagles' reserve-graders this season - and Jets' media manager Glen Dwyer said the Test star looked a class apart.
"Todd got a lot of touches and produced three wonderful cut-out passes and put his teammates into holes on a number of occasions," Dwyer said.
"He played at fullback in the first half and scored a try after 25 minutes and then moved into the centres in the second half.
"The boys really enjoyed having Todd around and he was given a huge round of applause after the team song in the sheds."
Dwyer said the Jets were not expecting to have Carney made available to them next week, but enjoyed having him in their ranks.
"He was great to have around and fitted in like he was just one of the boys, and we are very lucky to have him play for us," he said.
