Goddard sought Saints feedback
St Kilda star Brendon Goddard has revealed he sought feedback from his AFL teammates about his onfield demeanour.
The Saints only have one win and a draw from their first six matches and Goddard's form has dropped off noticeably so far this year after making the last two All-Australian teams.
Goddard said he does not know why his form has dropped off and he is also unapologetic about his how intensely he plays the game.
"I'm a pretty intense person and very competitive - at the minute, we're not winning games of footy," Goddard told Channel Nine's The Footy Show on Thursday night.
"That's the competitiveness coming out in me and I don't apologise for that, either.
"I've asked my teammates if it's been an issue, but it's more the expectation I put on myself.
"They said it hasn't been an issue, actually it's really improved because admittedly it has been in the past with my body language towards my team-mates."
Goddard said he suspects the reason for his own drop-off in form so far this season has been psychological, rather than physical.
He is receiving more opposition attention this year, but said that was not new.
"I experienced that a bit last year, even in the finals series as well, so it's not something I haven't dealt with in the past," Goddard said.
"But I'm not sure what it is, I'm looking for answers and I'm doing everything I can.
"Personally, I train as hard as I ever have, my preparation is the same as it always has (been) and I'd like to think that's pretty professional.
"Maybe it's something mental and I'm going down that path at the moment."
Goddard also denied rumours that St Kilda players were unhappy with the club's new headquarters at Seaford, which is much further out from Melbourne than their old Moorabbin home.
"It's all rumours - the facilities are first class," he said.
"The only issue we're dealing with now is the weather, Seaford is about six degrees colder than anywhere else on the planet."
