Gower back in Europe with no NRL deal
Former Penrith star Craig Gower has gone back to Europe without arranging a return to the NRL for 2012.
The former NSW State of Origin and Kangaroo representative has enjoyed a successful three-year stint playing rugby union in France, going on to represent Italy at Test level.
And his manager Greg Willett said the 33-year-old could continue his union career despite several NRL clubs reportedly being interested in signing him.
"He's gone back to France and will keep playing over there," Willett told AAP on Thursday.
Willett said there had been no suitable offers for Gower from the NRL and staying in Europe was looking the most likely outcome for the 2003 premiership winner with the Panthers.
"Not that suits," Willett said when asked if there had been any offers from NRL clubs.
"The only one I've spoken to is Penrith ... Souths rang me from England but I think they're sweet.
"That (Panthers) was the only thing I ever really heard back from, if he wanted to come back there and play.
"He's got to give up a lot to come back.
"Bayonne finishes the end of this year but there's something there from Treviso and he can stay on in France if he wants to.
"We just have to work it out, there's no rush for us.
"I know Amanda (Gower's wife) would like to stay in Europe."
