Rennie to coach Super Rugby Chiefs
Former New Zealand under-20 coach Dave Rennie was confirmed as the new head coach of the Chiefs Super Rugby team on Saturday.
Rennie will replace Ian Foster, who announced last year he would step down at the end of this season, as of next season after penning a two-year contract with the Chiefs.
Rennie's appointment is for 2012 and 2013 and comes into effect as of September 1.
He will combine the preparation work for his new job with his current role at provincial side Manawatu, who he has coached since 2006.
"Dave has a strong record, particularly with the New Zealand under 20 side which he steered towards three consecutive Junior World Championship titles," NZRU General Manager of Professional Rugby Neil Sorensen said on Saturday.
"As a former player who has unique coaching experiences with the under 20s, and provincial and Super Rugby teams, Dave will bring a great mix of skills and experience to this role."
Rennie said he was excited to be part of the Chiefs' campaign next year.
"While we have a fair bit of experience heading off shore, we are fortunate to have strong provincial unions developing the emerging talent.
"For the time being, my focus remains on preparing the Manawatu Turbos side for what will be a challenging and exciting, condensed ITM Cup competition."
