Keep the draw, says Tiger skipper

Richmond captain Chris Newman wants the draw retained in the AFL's home and away season, despite admitting he was "shattered" after the Tigers shared the points with St Kilda on Friday night.

Melbourne and Sydney also played out a draw in round one, but Newman supported retaining draws in the minor rounds.

"I think we still keep it, it doesn't occur too much," Newman told the Seven Network's AFL Gameday program on Sunday.

"It is disappointing and a hollow feeling for supporters after the game but I think you just keep it.

"We had a huge amount of positives to come out of the game, no doubt.

"But for me it felt like a loss.

"It was really disappointing, to get ourselves in a position to win a game again and not follow through, I was shattered after the game."

Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt was concussed during the game and remonstrated with club officials who refused to allow him to return to action.

"I had to pull him up a couple of times," Newman said.

"He was a little bit emotional which is how he plays his footy and how we like it.

"We don't want him to change and go away with that but I think the concussion can have those sort of effects, it was almost like an emotional rollercoaster for him.
