Inglis and Thaiday out of All Stars clash
Indigenous All Stars coach Laurie Daley's preparations for the February 12 clash against the NRL All Stars on the Gold Coast have been hit by the loss of Greg Inglis and Sam Thaiday.
Thaiday has ruled himself out of the Skilled Park showdown after being diagnosed with Osteitis pubis, a painful inflammation of the groin.
South Sydney meanwhile have notified the NRL that their off-season star recruit Inglis, will be unable to play after undergoing surgery to his hip and shoulder in the off-season.
Both players remain hopeful of being fit for the first round of the NRL in March.
"I'm deeply disappointed I can't play because it is a sensational week with the boys," said Thaiday on Friday.
"I'll still head down there (Gold Coast) anyway and do some stuff with the Indigenous team.
"I'll be around, I just won't be able to play."
Coach Ivan Henjak said the club's medical staff were aiming Thaiday's recovery for Brisbane's final pre-season trial against Melbourne at Redcliffe just before the NRL season kicks off.
"That's the plan but if he has to go into to first game without a trial we won't push him," said Henjak.
"It's not ideal, but it is one of those injuries you need to manage."
Thaiday, who had a career-best season last year - was confident of a quick recovery.
"The good thing is we have got on to it early and now we can just look after it," he said.
Daley was told earlier in the week Inglis and Thaiday were rated only 50-50 chances of being able to play against Wayne Bennett's NRL All Stars side which was announced in Sydney on Friday.
Inglis and Thaiday were listed in an NRL press release on Friday but Daley was already considering replacements anticipating losing the two stars to injury.
Captain Preston Campbell, who came up with the All Star concept is also in some doubt with an ankle injury.
The Gold Coast fullback has been restricted in his running but is keen to take the field after experiencing the emotion of last year's inaugural All Star game won 16-12 by the Indigenous All Stars.
The NRL All Star side named in Sydney on Friday includes several new faces including exciting young Canberra fullback Josh Dugan and Cronulla enforcer Paul Gallen.
Canterbury and NSW hooker Michael Ennis has also made Bennett's list of 20 which will again be led by Darren Lockyer.
