AFL medals flagged for two grand finals
The AFL will award premiership medals to members of the winning team on Saturday and also to players who featured for that club in last week's drawn grand final.
The announcement means for example that should St Kilda's Michael Gardiner be ruled out for this week's replay against Collingwood with a hamstring injury, the ruckman will still receive a winner's medal if the Saints triumph.
"The AFL wishes to advise that a 2010 AFL premiership medal will be awarded to each playing member of this year's premier club, whether they play in the grand final only, grand final replay only, or both grand final matches," the AFL said on Tuesday in a statement.
AFL chief Andrew Demetriou said the league had considered the possibility that a player could play in last week's grand final but not the replay.
"It is the AFL's view that any player who has taken the field in either the grand final, or the grand final replay, has had a role in his club winning the premiership," Demetriou said.
"As such, the AFL will present a premiership medal to the 22 members of the winning team in this Saturday's match, as well as any player who played in last week's team and misses this week's game for any reason."
