Grand final draw guts AFL fans
The crowd of around 15,000 that squeezed into Melbourne's Federation Square to watch the AFL grand final on a big screen left feeling gutted after the draw between Collingwood and St Kilda.
Comments like "They should have extra time" and "We have to do it all again next week" were common amongst the fans donned out in their club colours as they streamed into St Kilda Rd.
It was a trouble-free afternoon as people staked out their spot in front of the screen.
At halftime with St Kilda trailing by 24 points, the Magpies fans, who easily outnumbered those in red black and white, were feeling confident.
But the Saints clawed their way back giving renewed voice to the St Kilda fans.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard said at the traditional North Melbourne breakfast that they nation couldn't stand another draw after the federal election.
"Please, please, we cannot have a draw," she begged.
Another 13,000 Collingwood members who gathered at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl were equally shattered at the result.
At the MCG 11 people were evicted by police, four of them for drunkenness.
