Dockers' Ballantyne out for the season
Fremantle have been dealt a hammer blow ahead of Saturday's elimination final against Hawthorn, with forward Hayden Ballantyne ruled out for the rest of the AFL season.
Ballantyne re-injured his foot in Friday night's six-point win over Carlton, with a fracture in his left foot forcing him to wear a moon boot for the next six to eight weeks.
It was an unlucky break for Ballantyne, who was only a late inclusion against the Blues after missing the previous three games with a hot spot in his foot.
The 23-year-old has been a major contributor to the Dockers' charge into the finals this season, booting 32 goals in 18 games and providing crucial pressure in the forward line.
Fremantle coach Mark Harvey said Chris Tarrant (knee) was no chance to take on the Hawks, but Alex Silvagni, Ryan Crowley and Des Headland could earn recalls after playing in the WAFL over the weekend.
