Wallaroos trip up against Black Ferns
The Wallaroos have fallen 32-5 to New Zealand in their Women's Rugby World Cup pool clash at Surrey Sports Park.
Australia fought a losing battle against the dominant Black Ferns, who scored six tries to one in a clinical display to record their 17th consecutive victory on the Cup stage.
New Zealand secured a bonus point before the break for four tries, including a double to impressive flanker Justine Lavea.
The loss means Australia must record a comprehensive bonus-point victory over South Africa on Thursday (Friday AEST) and hope for other results to fall their way to ensure their place in the semi-finals as the next best second-placed nation across the three pools of four.
Wallaroos skipper Cheryl Soon said she was disappointed Australia were still searching for their first win against New Zealand.
"They're the defending world champions and they're the benchmark in Women's Rugby," Soon said.
"We knew we were going to be up for a huge challenge. Unfortunately, we didn't come through with the goods in the end but we will work on it for the next one.
"We will fix what we need to fix and go forward from there."
