Cowboys push on with season review
North Queensland's board is expected to continue to probe the Cowboys' poor NRL season after a seven-hour meeting in Townsville on Friday.
There was no official comment following the day-long review during which a number of hot topics were discussed, including the performances of the club's coaching and training staff.
While the issues were not revealed, Cowboys chief executive Peter Parr said the board would continue to examine the club's structure and continue to review things.
Coach Neil Henry's weekly press conference following training on Friday morning was called off and the team held a closed session in the afternoon.
Henry's position and that off assistant coach Dean Lance would have been discussed along with the contribution of fitness specialist Billy Johnstone.
Henry enters the third year of a five-year arrangement in 2011 with the Cowboys understood to be able to terminate the last year if the Cowboys have not made the finals by 2012.
There's talk the Cowboys are angling to have another crack at luring Wayne Bennett to the club in 2012 after their initial bid in 2008 was sunk by two directors opposing his appointment.
It's believed Bennett recently turned down an offer of a two-year extension of his contract with St George Illawarra leading to rumours he could be heading home to Queensland.
Henry will survive next season but Lance, who is off contract, may not be so fortunate.
However if the Cowboys, who will be boosted by the addition of international Brent Tate and young Broncos winger Antonio Winterstein, don't crack the finals next season, the former Dally M coach of the year's position would flimsy at best.
