Locke cleared of serious hip injury
Warriors winger Kevin Locke has been cleared of a serious hip injury after slamming into a goalpost while scoring the match-winning try in the 20-18 NRL win over the Sydney Roosters.
Locke, 21, was taken to hospital in Christchurch after colliding with the goalpost while sliding on his stomach through wet grass after diving for a ball kicked ahead to bag his third try of the match.
He stayed behind in Christchurch with team doctor John Mayhew on Sunday night before flying home to Auckland on Monday morning.
Mayhew said while Locke was still in some pain on Monday, x-rays had confirmed there was no serious injury to his hip.
"He has heavy bruising on the left side of his hip but there is no fracture or evidence of anything other than that," he said.
Mayhew said Locke also had a medial ligament strain in his left knee as a result of the collision with the goalpost.
"It's too early to put a time frame on how long he will be sidelined for as we're still assessing the full extent of his injuries."
The Warriors, now ninth in the NRL competition with seven wins and seven losses from their 14 matches so far, face 10th-placed Parramatta at Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday.
