Hunt told to put hits on GCFC teammates
Gold Coast recruit Karmichael Hunt has been told to stop being a nice guy and start seriously tackling his new AFL teammates.
GCFC coach Guy McKenna issued the edict to Hunt during a training drill.
"Even I learnt something new today," McKenna told reporters after the two-hour training session at Carrara.
"The hard thing for him is he is taking it a bit easy on the boys.
"I told him, if you want to hit 'em, hit 'em.
"As soon as they get used to it the better we will be."
McKenna said Hunt will line-up at full forward at the opening bounce against Coburn at Craigieburn on Saturday.
During Wednesday morning's training session, the former Bronco completed numerous goal kicking and forward drills, preferring to kick on his right foot when given the choice.
McKenna said there were no expectations and he has told Hunt to pretend he is a young kid playing his first Australian rules match.
"Whether he touches it (the ball), I couldn't care less," McKenna said.
"We want him to enjoy it and we have no expectations.
"I said to him, `pretend you're eight-years-old and playing your first Auskick game."
Gold Coast's mature rookie Michael Coad is expected to be released from a Melbourne hospital on Friday after spending the most of the week in intensive care following a serious kidney injury sustained last weekend.
It is expected he will return with the side on Saturday night.
