Robertson's move pays off for Manly
It took only one loss in 2010 for Michael Robertson to be switched from fullback to the wing but the move looks to be paying off for Manly.
With injury-plagued, first-choice fullback Brett Stewart ruled out again at the beginning of the season, Robertson stepped into the No.1 jersey like he did throughout 2009.
However after Manly's 24-20 loss to Parramatta, Robertson was moved to the wing while Ben Farrar was handed the job at fullback.
Robertson said he was not disappointed about the switch and was enjoying being back in the position he has spent most of his career.
"You do a lot less running," Robertson joked on Wednesday.
"Benny Farrar is doing a great job for us and I'm more than happy to stick out there and do my thing."
The following week with Farrar at fullback and Robertson on the wing, Manly downed Newcastle 36-12.
Farrar said he welcomed the switch and both he and Robertson were comfortable in their positions.
"There's a bit more room to play with back there and I'm getting a bit more confident there each week," Farrar said.
"Robbo's pretty comfortable on the wing and it's working pretty well."
With Manly now two from two with Farrar at fullback, it looks like the search for a replacement for Stewart is over.
Robertson said the difficulty of replacing such a "freak of a player" was compounded by a number of injuries to players filling in on the wing.
He said the key for Manly was to get a consistent team on the field every week.
