Umps missed dangerous tackle: Akermanis
Western Bulldogs star Jason Akermanis has questioned why he didn't receive a free kick after being slammed head-first into the MCG turf last Friday night.
Akermanis was on the wrong end of a driving tackle from the Brisbane Lions' Jed Adcock in their semi-final.
The AFL match review panel on Monday reviewed the incident and cleared Adcock of any wrong-doing by ruling he could not have seen the ball spill free before he took Akermanis to ground.
But Akermanis said the tackle left him nursing a sore head, and wondered why he was not awarded a free kick.
"At the start of the year that was their (the AFL's) big thing, they're going to protect the head," he told radio station Nova.
"You can't pin arms and throw them to the ground, it was deemed to be dangerous.
"The system is meant to protect you and on the weekend, I don't know how they missed that one."
The panel did not lay any reports from either of the weekend's semi-finals, meaning the tribunal will not sit this week.
