Hasleby will stay with Freo: Pavlich
Fremantle skipper Matthew Pavlich is certain Paul Hasleby will remain a Docker for life despite the ugly contract standoff between the veteran midfielder and the AFL club.
Hasleby is out of contract and was left fuming when he was only offered a one-year extension earlier this season.
The 28-year-old has threatened to walk away from the club unless he is granted a two-year deal.
Pavlich discussed the issue with Hasleby recently and said he had no doubt his good friend and business partner would put pen to paper soon.
"Having spoken to him about it it's up to those two parties, the club and Haze to sort it out," Pavlich said on Monday.
"But I'm confident it will happen.
"I'm positive the result will get over the line.
"I'm really pleased with where it's at at the moment and I'm sure it will be resolved soon."
Hasleby missed the entire 2008 season after undergoing a knee reconstruction but has bounced back to top form this year, playing every game.
He has averaged 24 possessions a game in a midfield crippled by injuries, with the loss of key pair Rhys Palmer and Ryan Crowley early in the season leaving Hasleby and Pavlich to lead a young on-ball division.
When asked what would be in Hasleby's best interests, Pavlich immediately replied: "To sign with the Dockers.
"The great thing about Paul is he's come back (from a knee reconstruction) and played a really good season.
"He has shown his body can withstand an AFL season.
"He has got through the 22 games and played really well for us."
Traditional Mad Monday celebrations were canned at Fremantle this year in favour of the more laborious post-season medical screenings and fitness tests.
The Dockers finished 14th on the table with a 6-16 record but Pavlich said the influx of youth was a major positive to draw from an otherwise disappointing campaign.
Eleven players made their debut this year, with Nick Suban, Stephen Hill, Greg Broughton, Hayden Ballantyne and Matt de Boer particularly impressive.
Pavlich hoped the club's investment in youth would soon pay massive dividends.
"There's almost three steps (in the evolvement of a young player)," he said.
"The first one is you hope you get a game when you arrive at the club, the second one is you hope to play well and the third one is you start expecting to play well, and that takes a huge amount of time for the guys to get to that point.
"It probably does take a couple of seasons so the quicker we get the majority of the list in that expecting to play well (mode) the better."
Meanwhile, Fremantle player development coach Steve Malaxos will depart the club when his contract expires at the end of October.
"Stephen has played an integral role in the development of our young players, particularly during the past four years as head of our development program," football operations manager Chris Bond said.
"We acknowledge Stephen's dedication and commitment during his seven years with the Fremantle Football Club and wish him well in his future endeavours."
