Moltzen saves the day for Wests Tigers
Wests Tigers youngster Tim Moltzen has proved his versatility, putting in a match-saving tackle from fullback against the Sydney Roosters.
The 20-year-old was named at halfback, but spent the last 55 minutes of Sunday's NRL game against the Sydney Roosters at his former position of fullback, after Shannon Gallant left the field with a calf injury.
Moltzen saved a certain try when he managed to force Anthony Minichello across the sideline in the 58th minute and deny the Roosters the lead.
It was an effort that proved crucial as the Tigers went on to beat a surprisingly desperate Roosters outfit 17-10.
Moltzen said he was pleased just to be playing first grade in any position.
"My goal at the start of the year was to try and keep a spot in first grade, wherever that may be I was happy to do that," he said.
"If I've got to go back to fullback, then that's what I'll do."
He has played 11 games this season in the No.1 jersey, one as a centre and six in the halves.
The Tigers haven't lost with him at No.7.
Moltzen said it took time to adjust each time he changed positions.
"It was a little bit confusing, my head was still in the halves but in defence I was at fullback," he said.
Tigers coach Tim Sheens was full of praise.
"It's not easy to replace a fullback in a game, and he did a good job," he said.
"We were a bit bits and pieces in the back so I was pleased that Timmy did the job well.
"That's sort of the reason I rate him as a player - halfback great, could be even greater at fullback."
