Ablett, Varcoe out of Geelong side
Star midfielder Gary Ablett and forward Travis Varcoe have joined Geelong's long injury list and will not play the Brisbane Lions in Saturday night's AFL game at the Gabba.
The loss of Ablett to a calf injury and Varcoe to shoulder soreness, confirmed on Friday, means the Cats will be without six players who took part in last Sunday's bruising, six-point loss to St Kilda.
Fullback Matthew Scarlett (back), fellow defender Darren Milburn (ankle), tagger Cameron Ling (knee) and midfielder James Kelly (hamstring) are the other casualties, while forward Steve Johnson (hip soreness) will sit another game out.
Onballer Kane Tenace and small forward Nathan Djerrkura were named as replacements for Ablett and Varcoe, and joined a large replacement group already comprising David Wojcinski, Tom Gillies, Tom Lonergan and Ryan Gamble.
Defender Harry Taylor suffered concussion against the Saints, but was cleared to play.
