Tuqiri was 'stunned' when dumped by ARU
Dumped Wallabies winger Lote Tuqiri says he was "stunned" when he was told of his sacking during an hour-long meeting on Monday.
But he has remained tight-lipped about the reason the Australian Rugby Union tore up his contract, saying he did not see it coming.
Writing his weekly column in The Sunday Telegraph, Tuqiri said he was at home with his wife on Monday when he was summoned to a meeting with the ARU that "changed my life forever".
"It was conveyed to me that they wanted to terminate my contract," Tuqiri writes.
"For legal reasons I can't detail what was said."
However, he said the news came as a "massive shock".
"I was miffed. I didn't think it would ever get this far. But it has. I remember sitting there stunned.
"I didn't know what to do."
He said he had never tried to be bigger than the team and admitted that his past indiscretions were "disappointing".
"But what can I do? I've tried to move on. Wherever I go, I guess I'll be scrutinised.
"It's not easy being a professional sportsperson, but I know in my heart I've tried to conduct myself in the best way possible."
He said he did not know what the future holds, but there was no talk of retirement.
"I've got the next week or so to work out what I want to do and where I'd like to go with my football career."
