Shackleton says Roosters ready to crow
They're moving in the same direction, they're rested and Sydney Roosters prop Shane Shackleton says the NRL club are ready to get back to winning ways.
Two weeks ago the Roosters sunk to new depths in an already disappointing season as Penrith smashed them 48-6 at CUA Stadium.
But fast forward through a clear-the-air meeting between the players and coach Brad Fittler, a week off with the bye and the arrival of rugby league Immortal Arthur Beetson as an assistant coach and the mood is decidedly more positive at Bondi.
And Shackleton says that new mindset may help the Roosters snap a three-game losing streak when they take on Manly at Brookvale Oval on Saturday.
"I don't know if we've changed too much in regards to what we're doing at training but it just feels like everyone's more free flowing," he told AAP.
"Obviously Artie's come along, he hasn't really done a lot this week, probably overseeing more than anything this week but it just sort of feels like there's been a weight lifted off our shoulders.
"The last few games haven't been our best but we feel like we've prepared well so if we're on our game, we're confident we can do them on their home ground."
The last time the Roosters took on the Sea Eagles they did "do" them, claiming a 34-12 win at the Sydney Football Stadium in round 20 last year.
And despite the Sea Eagles appearing to have regathered some momentum after losing their first four matches of the season, the reigning premiers are only two points clear of the Roosters on the ladder with four wins from 11 matches.
"We obviously turned up that day (round 20, 2008) and any team is beatable so if everyone goes out there in the same mind frame and we do in a game as we practice the whole week then we should go close," Shackleton said.
"Obviously the feeling is a lot better than it has been the last few weeks and hopefully that can help us lift our game.
"We sorted a few things out last week and probably a little bit the week before and also this week.
"It's just a good feeling, we trained really well today and earlier in the week and hopefully we can put it into the game."
Shackleton also claimed he was hoping to sign a new deal with the Roosters, despite reported interest from Parramatta.
"Obviously the Roosters are a priority so we'll just see what happens, what's best for me, my family, and keep that in mind," he said.
"I've been here for five seasons now, I've got to know everyone pretty well and that makes your life easier."
